Ever wonder what makes an Oktoberfest beer an Oktoberfest? Or where the holiday came from to begin with?
Join Asheville Brewery Map's favorite tour guide, Will Vanscoy, as he dons his lederhosen and guides you around the South Slope in Asheville, NC, stopping at four unique breweries to try each of their takes on Oktoberfest beer.
You'll learn about the four ingredients that go into the brew, get a background on the breweries themselves, try some delicious German food, and walk away with a full belly and full knowledge on all things Oktoberfest.
Asheville Brewery Map has tour exclusivity at White Labs Brewing Co, where you will also be able to park for free for the entire day.
The Itinerary:
The tour starts at White Labs, where we will talk about yeast while sampling the WLP820 strain in an Oktoberfest lager, and whet our appetites with an Oktoberfest-themed snack.
From there, we will walk 0.3 miles amongst Appalachia's changing leaves to Green Man Brewing's Dirty Jack's location, where we will share a pitcher of Harvester and learn about malt.
Our tour will then take us 0.1 miles through the crisp fall air and around the corner to Wicked Weed Funkatorium, where we will discuss the unique characteristics of Fest Bier, and how hops make a difference in the overall taste of each Oktoberfest beer in general, all while sampling another german delicacy courtesy of the Wicked Weed kitchen.
Finally, our tour will end 0.1 miles away at Burial Beer Co, where our shared pitcher of Fest Oktoberfest Lager will come with insight into why Asheville's water quality is so important in the brewing process, and why so many breweries call WNC home.
You will leave us with a deeper understanding of Oktoberfest, Asheville, and craft beer in general, as well as feeling more knowledgable and confident when it comes to ordering/discussing your next pint... and you may even find a new friend!
